These aren't rules so much as guidelinestake them or leave them as fits your chapter's needs. Nonetheless, experience tells us that these rules will help make for a pleasant (generally) bad movie experience.
- Take turns picking movies.
As soon as people learn about the BMC, they offer movies they would show to torment fellow club-members. Don't be a program-hog. We recommend taking turns so that everyone in the club gets a chance to bring a movie. One way to implement this rule would be to say that new folks get to (have to) bring a movie on their second night.
- Be wary of marathons.
While Bad movies can be fun, they're usually also draining. Marathons can be tough to maintain and sustain.
- Keep each meeting's screening a secret.
We recommend that this be a hard and fast rule. If you tell people what you're showing, they won't come. Plus, you'll love the surprised groan when the movie's title comes on screen.
- Be aware of your chapter's taste guidelines.
Each of us has different lines we'd rather not cross or things we'd rather not watch (movies that go from "bad" to "unwatchable"). Try not to drive other members of the club away--it's about fun, after all.
- Don't be afraid to mock the movie. MST3K was popular for a reason.
- Don't charge "admission". That would make your screening illegal. Feel free to ask people to chip in for food, of course.
